Family Fun
There are lots of special events kids and adults can enjoy together all summer long. Here's a look at a few of them, broken down by the community in which they take place.
Kenai
May-September: Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center: "Wild Alaska: Bounty of the Sea." World class exhibition of the original sea life artwork by Alaska artists. For more information, call 283-1991.
June 12-13: Kenai River Festival. Free festival to celebrate the Kenai River. Features live music, puppet shows, arts and crafts, live birds and more. For more information, call 260-5449.
June 19: KDLL Art and Music Festival. Features live bluegrass music, arts, vendors and family entertainment. For more information, call 283-8433.
July 4: Independence Day celebration sponsored by the Kenai Chamber of Commerce. Community pa-rade, games, arts and crafts, entertainment and food booths. For more information, call 283-7989.
Aug. 28: Industry Appreciation Day. Free food and activities at the Kenai Park Strip, from noon to 4 p.m. For more information, call 283-7989.
Soldotna
June 12: Run for the River. A 5-kilometer walk or run on a multiple turn loop course, for ages 12 and older. For more information, call 260-5449.
July 9-11: Kenai Kennel Club Dog Show and Agility Trial at Skyview High School. For more information, call Tarma Grooming at 262-6405.

July 10: The Family Affair Golf Tournament at Birch Ridge Golf Course Teams consist of family members at least one generation apart and in possession of a USGA handicap. Sign-up is no later than noon July 9. For more information, call 262-5270.
July 23-25: Soldotna Progress Days. Includes a parade, community dinner and dances, rodeo, car shows, races, rally, arts and crafts. Games for kids of all ages. Live entertainment. For more information, call 262-9814.

Ninilchik
Aug. 21-22: Kenai Peninsula State Fair. "Alaska's biggest little fair." At the Ninilchik Fairgrounds. For more information, call 567-3670.
Nikiski
June 19: Family Fun in the Midnight Sun. Fun-filled day of activities, including food booths, carnival booths, a 5-K run, music, age appropriate games and prizes. Booth spaces are available to interested organizations. Sponsored by the North Peninsula Recreation Service Area. Activities take place in the area around the Nikiski Pool. Sterling
June 30-July 3: Freedom Festival, sponsored by the Abundant Life Assem-bly of God. Includes carnival games, crafts, food, singers, horseshoe tournament and lots of other activities for all ages. The event is at 32940 Sterling Highway. For more information, call the church at 262-7266.

Homer
June 12: Homer Animal Friends fifth annual Strut Your Mutt Dog Walk. Games and contest with prizes, including agility, best trick and owner-dog look alike contest. For more information, call 235-3779.

Seward
