Space Camps


The Challenger Learning Center of Alaska has four opportunities for science and technology education this summer.

Space Odyssey Week

Description: Students study and perform as NASA astronauts do. Lessons will include rocketry, robotics, space physiology and microgravity environments. A special session by dive masters will be used to simulate neutral buoyance.

Ages: 12-14

Dates: June 28-July 2 and July 26-30

Cost: $300 per week

Space Science Camp

Description: Students will experience a range of science topics related to the study of space. Topics will include rocketry, flight, robotics, microgravity, light and energy, and the solar system. Students will assemble models and test theories as part of the hands-on experience.

Ages: 10-12

Dates: June 14-18, July 12-16 and Aug. 9-13

Cost: $300 per week

Flight Overnight

Description: After arriving at 5 p.m. Friday, students will participate in a workshop designed to prepare them for Saturday's mission. After another workshop Saturday morning, campers will fly either "Voyage to Mars" or "Rendezvous with a Comet." Campers will head home at 3 p.m. Saturday. These are overnight camps. Campers will stay in the center's new dorms. Campers who do not wish to sleep over can opt to commute daily.

Ages: 10-13

Dates: June 25-26, July 9-10, July 23-24 and Aug. 6-7

Cost: $125 per session or $60 for commuters

Young Astronauts Program

Description: These two-hour sessions will focus on robotics on Tuesdays and flight and rocketry on Thursdays.

Ages: 7-9

Dates: June 22, July 6, July 20 and Aug. 3 are robotics classes.

June 24, July 8, July 22 and Aug. 5 are rocketry classes.

Cost: $20 per class
