Recycle group to meet

Re-Group will meet at 6:30 p.m. today in the commons at Kenai Peninsula College.

The topics will be results from the Caring for the Kenai and the Great Aluminum Can Round-Up. Plans for the fall electronics recycle event also will be discussed. It is open to the public.

Clean up bags available

The Soldotna Senior Citizens Center will have spring clean up bags available from 1 to 4 p.m. through Friday at the Soldotna Safeway store. Bags also are available at the Kenai and Soldotna chambers of commerce.

Parenting class continues

Central Peninsula Counseling Services part two and three of its series "Positive Parenting with a Plan" will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday and Tuesday in the conference room at Peninsula Community Health Center, 230 E. Marydale Ave., in Soldotna. The facilitator will be Heather Wiebel.

Attendees are required to have attended part one of the series to continue.

Military policy to be discussed

The Friday Community Dialogue topic will be "Military Policy: Private Armies, Torture, and Hidden Prisons."

The free event will be held at 7 p.m. Friday the Kenai River Center on Funny River Road in Soldotna.

A community potluck will be held at 6:30 p.m. prior to the discussion. It is open to the public.

Community Dialogues are co-sponsored by The Roundtable: Center for Mediation and Community Dialogues and the Kenai Peninsula Community Student Union. Its purpose is to bring people in the community together in safe forums for listening, speaking and learning.

Fallen military, Iraqi civilians to be honored

The American Friends Service Committee in cooperation with People for Peace and Justice will honor fallen U.S. military personnel and Iraqi civilians with the traveling exhibition "Eyes Wide Open: The Cost of War to Alaska" from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at Pioneer Park on the Sterling Highway adjacent to Soldotna Creek Park.

The exhibit presents a memorial to those who have fallen and asks whether any war can justify human cost. It will include a pair of boots for each Alaskan soldier killed in Iraq, shoes representing Iraqi civilian casualties and a visual display showing the human costs of war to communities.

Steak dinner offered

The American Legion Post No. 18 Sons of American Legion is planning its first steak night from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday in Ninilchik. It will be full dinner. It is open to the public.

Donations needed

Hope Community Resources is seeking donations of new or slightly used items for its garage sale fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 16 and 17 at the Community and Recreation Center on Princeton Street behind Ellis Automotive. Items may be dropped off from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Proceeds will benefit the group's Community and Recreation Center and the Key Campaign of Alaska.

Trash, treasure sale slated

The Soldotna Senior Center will hold a trash and treasure sale and bake sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 17 at its center. Vendor tables are available to rent for $10.

SoHi Class of '98 seeks information

The Soldotna High school Class of 98 is seeking contact information for its 10 year reunion.

Reunion dates have been made and the information for the reunion is available at www.sohi1998.com. Participants must R.S.V.P. and purchase tickets by May 23.

Soccer camp registration begins

The Boys and Girls Club is taking registrations for the World Cup Soccer Camp that will be held May 27 through 30. The deadline to register is May 15.

Self defense class offered

The Kenai Peninsula Chapter of RAD (Rape Aggression Defense) Systems will hold a hands-on self-defense class for women from 5:45 to 8:30 p.m. May 28, 29, 30 and a half day, with time to be announced, May 31.

Boys and Girls club begins summer registration

Registration is being accepted for summer sessions at Boys the Girls Club locations at Redoubt Elementary, Nikiski North Star Elementary and the Kenai and Homer clubhouses.
