Garden club meeting set
The Central Peninsula Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m. today at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Building near the Bridge Access intersection. The topic will be tree care and keeping for the homeowner. The featured speaker will be Curtis Stigall. Stigall is a certified arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture for six years. He also has 18 years experience in urban forestry and arboriculture and owner of An Arborist View, LLC.

Peninsula Optional hosts open house
Peninsula Optional High School will hold and open house at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The event will provide information for potential new ninth and 10th grade students, their families and any other interested individuals.

Baseball skills competition slated
North Peninsula Recreation is offering a free Pitch Hit and Run Baseball skills competition at 10 a.m. Saturday at Nikiski North Star Elementary School. Youth ages 7 to 14 are eligible to attend.

Garage sale donations wanted
The Kenai Performers will hold a garage sale fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 16 through 18 at the Old Town Playhouse. Donations may be dropped off from 5 to 8 p.m. through Friday.

Safety Day volunteers needed
The Soldotna Safety Day committee is seeking presenters for Safety Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 17 at the Soldotna Creek Park.

Baby-sitting course available
Central Peninsula Hospital will hold a Safe Sitter course May 29 and 30.
Youth must be 11 years old at the time of class. The cost is $50 and attendees must pre-register with the hospital cashier. Materials will be provided. For more information, call Michelle McKay at 714-4775.
Kenai market slated
The Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center is gearing up for its annual Saturday Market. Vendors interested in selling Alaska crafts and Alaska grown fruits or vegetables may call Harold Piland at 283-1991. The market will run May 24 through Sept. 13.
Seniors hold garage sale fundraiser
The Nikiski Senior Center will hold a garage sale May 29,30 and 31. The center is accepting donations of all kinds.

Footwear donations sought
Peninsula Smokefree Partnership's Teens Against Tobacco Use teen leadership group is organizing an advocacy project and is seeking donations of shoes, boots, slippers, or any other type of footwear in any condition.
After the June project, the shoes in good condition will be donated to local charities. Donations may be dropped off at Bridges Community Resource Network office in the Suite B, Eureka Mall in Soldotna, next to the Acapulco Restaurant.

The Friends of the Kenai Community Library are looking for persons interested in helping with fundraising efforts for the approved library expansion.
