Editor's note: The Kenai Peninsula Borough Office of Emergency Management will publish a 24-week series on disaster preparedness in preparation for September being National Disaster Preparedness Month.

It will count down to the end of September by sharing weekly tasks that community members may accomplish to make their home prepared.

Week 4 (May 4-10)

What to gather (*per person):

* Flashing safety light or light wand

* Compass

* Medicines and prescriptions marked "For Emergency Use"

* Contact lens supplies, if applicable

Things to do:

Develop a family disaster plan including where to meet if separated, name and number of out-of-area contact, kinds of information to give that contact in an emergency.
