Good day to all of my Nikiski neighbors. Make sure to end the week off well and wish a mother Happy Mother's Day on Sunday.

Well, Lori Manion has officially said that snow gear is no longer needed on the Nikiski North Star Elementary School playground. The kids look much more comfortable running and playing in more spring-like clothing.

There are a lot of events kicking off the month of May.

There will be a Cinco De Mayo celebration at noon today at the Nikiski Senior Citizens Center.

The Nikiski center will host a Mother's Day brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, call 776-7654.

The Nikiski Chamber of Commerce will meet Thursday at noon at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center. The speaker will be Jack Carver with Alaska Waste. For more information, contact Cindy Holloway at cholloway.metalmagic@alaska.net.

A game night will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the senior center. For more information, call 776-7654.

A teen night will be held at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday. Area teens are invited to the event, the cost is $2 per student.

The Aquafina Pitch Hit and Run Baseball Skills Competition will be held May 10 at the Nikiski North Star Elementary School fields. The competition is free. Call Tammy at 776-8800 for more information.

There will be a Nikiski community clean-up held Saturday starting at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Residents may sign up as individuals or as teams. Prizes and food will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Nikiski pool hockey rink. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top three teams who collect the most garbage.

A sidewalk sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Nikiski North Star Elementary School. Donations will be accepted today through Friday from 8:45 to 9:15 a.m. and from 3:30 to 4 p.m. in the school parking lot. For more information, call 776-8392.

The Nikiski Senior Service Area monthly board meeting will be held at 5 p.m. May 13 at the Nikiski Senior Center. The meeting is open to the public.

A Nikiski Senior Citizens Inc. board meeting will be held at 1 p.m. May 12 at its center. Public comment will be held from 12:45 to 1 p.m.

The Hershey Track and Field track meet will be held May 16 at the Nikiski High School track. Entry forms are located at the Nikiski pool, Nikiski North Star Elementary School and North Peninsula Recreation Service Area.

Summer swim lessons will begin June 10 at the Nikiski pool. Signups will be held at noon June 2. Call Nigel at 776-8800 for more information.
