KCHS choir concert today

The Kenai Central High School choir will hold its annual "Pops" concert at 6 p.m. today in the Renee C. Henderson Auditorium. Some of the songs to be performed are: "Chattanooga Choo Choo", "Day-O", "California Dreamin'", "We Are The World", "Oh, Darling" and "Stayin' Alive.E Selections from "Sweeney Todd", "Rent" and "Phantom of the Opera" also will be performed.E A live band will accompany the choir. The cost of admission is $5 for adults and $ 3 for students and senior citizens.

Parenting series slated

Central Peninsula Counseling Services will hold a free three-part series called "Positive Parenting with a Plan." Part one will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the conference room at Peninsula Community Health Center, 230 E. Marydale Ave., in Soldotna.

Part two will be held May 8 and part three May 13 at the same time and location as part one. Attendees are required to have attended part one in order to attend the other sessions. The facilitator will be Heather Wiebel. For more information, call 260-3691.

Recylcing group continues

Re-Group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the commons at Kenai Peninsula College. The topics will be results from the Caring for the Kenai and the Great Aluminum Can Round-Up. Plans for the fall electronics recycle event also will be discussed. It is open to the public. For more information, call Jan at 262-5098.

SoHi after-grad planning set

Soldotna High School parents of seniors will hold after-graduation planning meetings at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and May 15 in the teachers lounge at the school. For more information, call Maureen at 260-7000.

Racing Lions to gather

The Kenai Peninsula Racing Lions will meet at 7 p.m. Friday at the American Legion Hall. The topic will be donations of exterior paint to beautify its track bleachers and buildings and organizing a work party Saturday to get the track ready for its 2008 season. Mother's Day brunch planned

The Nikiski Senior Citizens Center will hold a Mother's Day brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday one mile off the Kenai Spur Highway on Island Lake Road. Homemade pies also will be available for purchase. The cost is $8.50 for adults and $3 for children ages 5 and under. Drinks are included.

Pancake breakfast fundraiser set to dish

Recovery Oasis will hold a pancake breakfast fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday on Mother's Day. Pancakes, sausages, coffee and juice will be served. A split-the-pot drawing and silent auction also will be held. The cost is $5 per person, $8 per couple and children ages 5 and under will be admitted free.

Garage sale fundraiser slated

The Soldotna and Kenai Curves will hold a garage sale fundraiser for the Relay for Life Event at the Kenai store May 17. Curves is seeking donation of items to sell. For more information and time of event, call Krista at 335-2787.

Serenity House seeks alumni

The Serenity House Treatment Center is organizing an alumni group. It will meet from 1:30 to 3 p.m. May 24 in the Denali Conference Room at Central Peninsula Hospital.

Anyone who has completed the residential portion of treatment at Serenity House is considered alumni. Goals and group activities will be decided at the meeting. For more information, call 714-4521.

Clothes donations sought

Peninsula Smokefree Partnership's Teens Against Tobacco Use teen leadership group is organizing an advocacy project and is seeking donations of shoes, boots, slippers, or any other type of footwear in any condition.

After the June project, the shoes in good condition will be donated to local charities. Donations may be dropped off at Bridges Community Resource Network office in the Suite B, Eureka Mall in Soldotna, next to the Acapulco Restaurant.
