Doris Mae Coggins
Sterling resident Doris Mae Coggins died Saturday, April 26, 2008 at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna. She was 80.
A scattering of her remains and a celebration of her life will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, May 8 at Cast Away Riverside RV Park and Lodge in Sterling. Pastor Scott Coffman will be officiating.
Mrs. Coggins was born August 27, 1927 to Morley and Beatrice Piggott in St. Louis, Mich. She became a resident of Alaska in May of 2007, living in Sterling. She worked at Florida Fruit and Gift Cooerative in Orlando, Florida, where she retired. She loved fishing and knitting.
Her family wrote, "Doris was a loving mother and friend. She enjoyed life, fishing, and pampering her animals, her babies. She was always willing to help whenever she felt someone was in need. Doris will be missed by all who knew her."
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Coggins; son, John Coggins; sister, Helen Miller; mother Beatrice Piggott; and brother, Russel Thompson.
She is survived by her daughter and son in-law, Jeannie and James Cullivan of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister, Martha Grams of Saginaw, Mich.; grandsons, Brian Groben of Colorado Springs, Colo. and David Groben of Tucson, Ariz.; granddaughter, Kelly Smillie of Richmond, Va.; great-grandsons, Michael Groben of Tucson, Ariz. and David Groben II of Oklahoma, and Lavon and Chuck Lockner of Sterling.
