Canady and Moore join 2006 AWG Staff

The 2006 Arctic Winter Games Host Society announced last week the addition of Kathy Moore and Colleen Canady, of Kenai, to the 2006 Arctic Winter Games Staff. Kathy will be filling the position of Volunteer Manager and will be responsible for recruiting and training the 3,000 volunteers that will be needed to host the games in 2006. "We have a tremendous pool of talented volunteers on the Kenai Peninsula and as Volunteer Manager I'll be working with the committees to be sure the volunteer needs are met. We'll be focusing on quality and training of volunteers not just quantity, and especially that the needs of each volunteer are met," said Moore.

Colleen Canady will be assuming the position of Manager of Marketing, "I love the business world," said Canady, "I'm looking forward to working with all my friends at the Kenai and Soldotna Chambers, as well as getting acquainted with Homer Chamber members, Seward, Anchor Point, Nikiski, and every business person in between to work toward maximizing the tremendous marketing potential for the 2006 Arctic Winter Games."

Moore will take over as Volunteer Manager May 10th, and Canady is scheduled to assume her position as Marketing Manager May 17th. AWG General Manager Loren Smith said, "I am very pleased to have Kathy and Colleen joining our Team 2006 staff.

They are bringing with them the knowledge, experience and enthusiasm that a Host Society staff needs to work with the committee members and volunteers to stage a successful Arctic Winter Games. These two very talented and energetic individuals are a major asset not only to the Games, but to their community."

The Games will be held in the Kenai Peninsula Borough March 5th-11th, 2006 and is expected to include over 2,000 athletes and cultural performers and 1,500 special guests from seven participating circumpolar nations. The 7-day event will require over 3,000 volunteers and is expected to attract between 6,000 and 8,000 spectators. The budget for the Kenai Peninsula 2006 Arctic Winter Games, including the two years of planning and development efforts leading up to the Games is projected at $5.3 million cash and in-kind contributions.
