Homer community cleanup under way

The Homer Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with other sponsors, is distributing trash bags for its annual Homer community cleanup day Saturday. Trash bags can be obtained at the chamber, Homer Fire Hall, Homer High School and the Homer Boys and Girls Club.

Trash collection began Tuesday and runs through Saturday. There will be cash and merchandise prizes given away for individual, youth and other groups bringing in the most trash. For more information, call Julie Goodwin at 235-7740.

WRCC to hold board meeting

The Women's Resource and Crisis Center will hold its monthly board meeting at 5:30 p.m. today at 403 N. Gill St. in Kenai. The public is invited to attend. For more information, call 283-9479.

Skyview to hold talent show

Skyview High School will hold a talent show at 6:30 p.m. today in the commons. The public is invited to attend. The cost is $2. For more information, call Bill Holt at 262-7575.

Weed awareness presentation slated

Soldotna Community Schools in conjunction with the Cooperative Extension Office of Alaska-Kenai Peninsula District will hold a weed awareness class from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Soldotna Middle School. Janice Chumley will instruct. For more information, call 262-5824.

Pottery fund-raiser Saturday

There will be a student pottery sale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Homer High School under an awning in front of the school. Proceeds will benefit the Homer High School art and pottery programs.

Shotshell, ballistics seminar slated

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game and Cooperative North American Shotgunning Education will sponsor a shotshell and ballistics seminar for bird hunting from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 5 to 10 p.m. Tuesday.

The seminar will cover steel and lead shot technology, new shot types, understanding shotguns and shotshell ballistics, how to choose effective loads for game birds, shooting skills improvement and bird conservation. The seminar is free of charge.

A shooting clinic with individual instruction also will be held. Participation is limited to 20 selected shooters. Participants must attend the seminar, sign up and pay in advance. The cost is $20 to cover cost of ammunition and targets. For more information, call Larry Lewis at 262-9368.

Husband-coached child class set

There will be a free showing and class of the Bradley Method of husband-coached child birth at 8 p.m. Monday in Soldotna. For more information, call Olga Krejci at 262-9291.

Red Cross training available

There will be a free Red Cross shelter training meeting from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Homer Fire Hall. For more information or to register, call Homer Public Health at 235-8857.

Final day to register for co-ed soccer

The Boys and Girls Club is taking registration for its summer co-ed soccer program through Friday. Children ages 4 through 18 are eligible to play.

The cost is $60 for players 12 to 18 year old and $50 for those 11 and younger.

Registrations can be mailed, faxed or dropped off at the Kenai Boys and Girls Club. For more information and season start dates, call 283-2682.
