Chambers set schedules

* The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce, The Alliance and Kenai Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with The Denali Co., will hold a meeting on the ConocoPhillips-BP gas pipeline at the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska in Kenai. * The Kenai Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon Wednesday at the Kenai Merit Inn on Willow Street. The featured speaker will be Mark Graves with Lynden Transport. Also Maryanne Pease with the Council of AK Producer will give a presentation on the anti-mining ballot initiative. For more information, call Tina Baldridge at 283-7989.

* The Nikiski Chamber of Commerce meets at noon today at Nikiski Recreation Center. The featured speakers will be Pat Garley with Arctic Fires Bronze and Scott Hamann with Metal Magic Inc. Their topic will be the Kenai River of Iron Pour. For more information, call Scott Hamann at 776-7676.

Pampered Chef hosts fundraiser

Through its Help Whip Cancer campaign, The Pampered Chef joins forces with the American Cancer Society to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer education and early detection programs.

Local Pampered Chef representative Elaine Kellum will be at booth No. 7 at the Sports and Recreation Show at the Peninsula Sports Center on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to offer cash and carry products. Up to 25 percent of purchases will be contributed to the American Cancer Society.

Small business fair slated

The Small Business Development Center will host its eighth annual free Small Biz Fair from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 16 at the Alaska Christian College, The college will provide lunch for $10 per person.

The topics will be safety and security tips for small businesses to help keep staff and facilities from uncomfortable or dangerous situations; hazards within facilities; natural disasters and emergencies; and insurance options.

Presenters will include Soldotna Police Chief John Lucking, Central Emergency Services Fire Marshal Gary Hale, Kenai Peninsula Borough Risk Management Director Dave Gottschalk, KPB Emergency Management Director Scott Walden and Jon Brandt with New York Life.

The registration deadline is May 1.

Market vendors sought

The Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center is gearing up for its annual Saturday Market. Vendors interested in selling Alaska crafts and Alaska grown fruits or vegetables may call Harold Piland at 283-1991. The market will run May 24 through Sept. 13.

Children's cooking workshops offered

Children ages 6 to 12 may attend pint-size workshop cooking classes at 10 a.m. Saturdays at Allen and Petersen Cooking and Appliance Center in Kenai. Admission is two cans of food or a $2 donation to the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank. A parent must remain during the 30-minute workshops. For more information, call 262-3111.
