Outage leaves Kasilof area in the dark Saturday
An equipment failure at the Homer Electric Association substation in Kasilof was to blame for a power outage that affected approximately 2,500 members from Kalifornsky Beach to Clam Gulch early Saturday morning.
The power outage started at approximately 7:20 a.m. and lasted until 11:09 a.m. when workers restored power.
Joe Gallagher, HEA spokesman, said the outage affected residents in the K-Beach area, Kasilof, Coho Loop and Clam Gulch. HEA crews are currently trying to determine what caused the equipment failure at the substation, he said.
The Kenai Peninsula Builders Home Show was without power for a few hours, he said, but that outage was caused by an internal problem at the Soldotna Sports Center.
Other than people calling to find out when power would be restored, Gallagher said the outage generated few complaints.
He said HEA encourages residents to call 888-8-OUTAGE as a way for the company to make sure every one is receiving power.
