Soldotna resident Joshua J. Rhoten died Sunday, April 9, 2006, at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage. He was 30.
A private service will be held in his honor. His ashes will be laid to rest in Soldotna and Eugene, Ore.
Mr. Rhoten was born March 17, 1976, in Eugene, Ore. He received his MICP paramedic/firefighter certification at Chemeketa Community College in August 2003. He moved to Soldotna on Jan. 12, 2004, where he worked for Central Emergency Services until his passing. Mr. Rhoten enjoyed skiing, snowshoeing, biking, hiking, rock climbing, camping, mountain climbing and photography.
He also enjoyed spending time with his pets, Mady, Monk, Morrigan and Molly.
“Josh was a loving, generous, kind man who found joy in every aspect of his life. A devoted loyal son, husband, brother and friend, Josh gave generously to all who knew and loved him. He loved every aspect of life and had a delightful sense of humor,” his family said.
“No challenge was too formidable for Josh. From the age of 15, he worked in mountain and swift-water rescues. He also loved to fish and hunt. Intelligent and sensitive, Josh enjoyed reading, watching films and playing games. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. In keeping with his generous spirit, Josh donated his organs, offering life to others with critical health issues.”
He is survived by his wife, Karalee Rhoten of Soldotna; mother and stepfather, Diana and Bill Keefe of Eugene; father and stepmother, Jim and Patty Rhoten of Eugene; sisters, Jenny Rhoten and Wendy Keefe of Eugene; brother, Andy Keefe of Bozeman, Mont.; in-laws, Gil and Judy James of Eugene; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Megan and Greg Roberts of Millington, N.J.; and grandparents, Virginia Peters of Eugene and Merle and Mardell Knigge of Sun City, Ariz.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Rhoten’s memory to Central Emergency Services, Station 1, 231 S. Binkley St., Soldotna, AK 99669.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
