Gary Kline Chisolm

Ninilchik resident Gary Kline Chisholm died Sunday, March 16, 2008, at his home in Ninilchik. He was 76.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 24, at the McLaughlin Twin Cities Funeral Home, 1405 John Sims Pkwy E. in Niceville, Fla. Graveside services with military honors will immediately follow the services at the Marler Memorial Cemetery in Destin, Fla.

Mr. Chisholm was born July 16, 1931, to Luther Earl and Susan Alma (Knauss) Chisholm in Lepanto, Ark. He attended public school through the 10th grade. He furthered his education by attending vocational technical schools to become an electrician. He entered into the U.S. Air Force in 1951 until he was honorably discharged in 1965. Mr. Chisholm continued working as an electrician for the civil service and worked at Hurlburt Air Force Base in Florida from 1966 to 1972 and Eielson AFB in Alaska from 1972 to 1975 when he retired. He also worked offshore drilling with Penrod Drilling Co. from 1980 to 1982.

Mr. Chisholm moved to Ninilchik in 1997. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 235 in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., the VFW Post No. 10029 in North Pole and the AmVets Post No. 4 in Soldotna.

"Gary was a caring, loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved jokes and making people laugh. He had a serious side and if he could help anyone, especially if it concerned electrical knowledge and expertise he was more than willing to help. He enjoyed making homemade wine as well as fishing and hunting in Alaska," his family said.

Mr. Chisholm was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Debra Chisholm.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Opal Chisholm of Ninil-chik; sons, Gary Chisholm Jr. and Jerry Chisholm of DeFuniak Springs, Fla.; daughter, Susan Vader of Riverside, Calif.; grandsons, Andre' St. Denis of Los Angeles, Jon Paul St. Denis of Texas, Seth Vader of Riverside and Michael and Dustin Chisholm of DeFuniak Springs; granddaughters, Megan, Lauren and Claire Vader of Riverside, Amanda and Deanna Chisholm of DeFuniak Springs, and Lena Chisholm of Lakeland; great-grandson, Logan St. Denis of Universal City, Texas; brother, Leonard Chisholm of Miami; and sister, Lynn Steward of Manasqua, N.J.

Local arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
