Fundraiser rolls to successful finish

My fifth-grade class at Nikiski North Star Elementary recently baked and sold 1,152 cinnamon rolls. This cinnamon roll bakery fundraiser was a sweet success; we are well on our way to Kasitsna Bay! The kids were amazing workers, and the parents were generous contributors.

Ramona Malston, Hara Hansen and Robin Bennett: thank you for working your magic behind the scenes for countless days and hours coordinating supplies, equipment, ingredients, logistics, presale orders and deliveries, and for record-keeping and money counting. You wowed me with your expertise, efficiency, energy and good humor.

Thank you also to all of the following people and businesses: XTO Energy Inc., for your generous donation; Fred Meyer and Three Bears, for your donations of ingredients; Debbie Coburn of Tesoro, for your coordination of the orders from the refinery; Jerry Ralston, Ann Krogseng and Richard Malston for delivering our rolls; Wayne and Maxine Carroll, for always finding creative ways to be supportive (the aprons were great!) and for supervising the actual baking; Robin Purkerson and Elena Diaz, for cheerleading our activities and helping with cleanup; Elizabeth Hufford and Judy Shields, for sharing the bakery with your students; Wally Hufford, for taking pictures; Richard Kelso, for loaning and delivering the warming racks; Wayne and Maxine Carroll, Carol Ralston, Trina Webre, Valarie Johnson, Terra Murphy, Suzanne Jackson, Mary Jean Lewis, Ramona Malston, Ruth Malston, Hara Hansen and Robin Bennett, for working in the cinnamon roll bakery and helping things run smoothly; Suncha Harvick, Diane Ames and Mary Glynn, for sharing your kitchen with us; and Dan Hastings and Dean Hamburg, for the loan and delivery of the cinnamon roll baking pans.

Thank you to the community for supporting what has become an annual fundraiser. The kids and adult chaperones of our Kasitsna Bay marine science field trip will thank you by being good stewards of our beautiful marine environment.
