Congratulations to the Ninilchik girls basketball team for winning No. 1 seed from the Peninsula Conference last Saturday. Ninilchik senior, Heidi Skjold, was tourney Most Valuable Player. The team will play its first-round game at state at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Anchorage. This is the 13th time the girls have won a district championship and it's their 16th consecutive trip to the state tournament.

Congratulations to Dan Leman as this is his 18th year coaching the high school girls' basketball team. Jamie Leman, Dan's wife and mother of former Lady Wolverines, Tasha, Whitney and Krista, said, "Even though our daughters are no longer playing, I found out that I still get very, very nervous and excited during games. I was hoping I'd be able to breathe easy and relax for a change not!"

Nikolaevsk's Lady Warriors beat Seldova, advancing them from fourth to third seed in the tournament. Lady Warriors who made the all-tournament team are: Efrosia Yakunin, Cassie Fefelov and Valerie Yakunin. Ninilchik's Lindsey Rohr and Heidi Skjold also made the all-tournament team.

Quality Schools Quality Students had a forum a few weeks ago and I asked principle, Terry Martin to explain what the program was about.

He said it involves initiative for community engagement, which is a tool to bring adults and youth together to unify efforts to meet the needs of young people in our community. Mr. Martin said one interesting result from the meeting was listening to youth's feedback as they expressed their desire to see more non-sports activities after school that includes their parents. A peninsulawide tack swap will be held at the Kenai Peninsula State Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 12. This may be an opportunity to meet farriers, buy or sell new or used horse tack and attend free educational workshops throughout the day. Food concessions by the Trail Blazer's 4-H club will be available. If you are interested in being a vendor, reserve your free space by April 5 by calling 252-0247.
