ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Anchorage area households outspend the average American household, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
The agency said Thursday that households in the Anchorage metropolitan area spent $53,028 per year in 1999-2000. That's about 41 percent more than the national average.
According to the Consumer Expenditure Survey, housing expenses in Anchorage were 43.6 percent above that for the nation. Spending for entertainment also was significantly higher, 78.3 percent above the norm.
The average household in Anchorage reported income of $54,506 before taxes.
