Kenai golf report: Davis, Griffin win KGA tourney

What a beautiful week at the Kenai Golf Course! Great play, sunshine, and a course that is in great shape. The watering crew will be getting a workout as this great weather continues.

The project on hole #6 is rounding into shape. Stumps have been removed and railroad ties now define all areas and topsoil has been hauled to the area. All that remains is to spread and roll the topsoil and give it a healthy dose of lime, fertilizer, and grass seed. This is a major improvement to the area. When finished it will look as good as the green surrounds on hole #4. Many thanks to Keith Stuart for doing such outstanding work.

Welcome back to Chris Kimball to our voluntary grounds crew. He will be working around the clubhouse and on the tee boxes on hole #3. We are so glad that you are feeling better, Chris. Thanks, now play lots of golf and have fun. Nice to have you back.

There was a closest to the pin contest on #10 and #14. However, no one hit the green so that will carry over to next Thursday. Just a reminder, men’s night is every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome. It is organized by Craig Jung.

Just a reminder, ladies, that the Kenai Golf Association is paying for a round of golf for all ladies once a week throughout the entire season. Many women have taken advantage of this program and had a great time playing golf.

Our Junior Mentor Program, sponsored by the Kenai Golf Association, has had great participation. This past Thursday, 11 juniors participated. This program is every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. It includes one hour of instruction and an hour of golf. There is no charge to junior golfers. It is our way of encouraging kids to enjoy the sport of golf. Thank you, Jerry Norris and Noel Widmayer, for your work with these young golfers.

The next Junior Clinic is July 23 to 25, 10 a.m. to noon. The clinic is open to youngsters ages 7 to 14, beginnners through intermediate level. Tommy Carver is the instructor. Call the clubhouse at 2283-7500 for more information or to sign up.
