The visiting Peninsula Oilers had a three-game winning streak snapped by falling to the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks 8-3 on Saturday in Alaska Baseball League play.

The Oilers fall to 7-3 in the league but remain atop the standings, while the Chinooks move to 3-4 by putting up their second-highest, single-game run total of the season.

The Oilers jumped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Ryan Novis and Bryce Begell reached on singles and scored on a grounder by Jake Darrow that made it through the infield on an error.

But the Chinooks came right back with three runs against Oilers starter Austin Merrill in the bottom of the frame. Merrill would last two innings and give up three hits on three runs.

Peninsula tied the game up in the third when Novis had a clutch two-out single to score Berkey, who had led off the inning with a double.

The Oilers would fail to score the rest of the game while the Chinooks would continue to pull away, rolling up a 13-4 advantage on hits.

On the mound for the Oilers, Erickson Fish gave up eight hits and three runs in four innings, Justin Jaime had a scoreless inning and Calvin Farris gave up two runs and two hits in an inning.

Novis led the Oilers at the plate by going 2 for 4.

Today, the Oilers stay at the Chinooks for a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. Friday, the Oilers had their game at the Anchorage Glacier Pilots postponed by rain. The Oilers will now face the Pilots in a Monday doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
