Seward Silver Salmon Derby

With more than $150,000 in prizes, this derby is the biggest and potentially the most lucrative on the peninsula. Sponsored by the Seward Chamber of Commerce, the contest runs around the clock for eight days in August.

The derby includes daily prizes, mystery fish drawings, tagged fish worth up to $100,000 and prizes for the 50 heaviest silvers. $50 daily prize for top fish entered by man, woman, and youth. $20 daily prize for Mystery Fish. Mystery Fish are drawn at random from the fish entered that day. For each fish entered an official weigh-in ticket is filled out.

Tickets cost $10 daily or $50 for the entire derby.

All-American Kids' Fishing Derby

The All-American Kids' Fishing Derby on the Anchor River is open only to children under 16. It takes place annually on the first Saturday of June. There is no entry fee. The biggest king salmon wins and the angler advances to the statewide contest. The statewide winner advances to the national contest.

Annual Winter King Salmon Derby

The Homer Chamber of Commerce Winter King Salmon Tournament is a one-day tournament that occurs each March on Kachemak Bay.

The 2004 tournament took place March 20th and was won by Garrett Maupin of Anchorage. The grand prize was $15,561 for his 38.42 pound King.

Tickets cost $100 each, and 80 percent of the take goes to prizes (with 20% going to the grand prize winner). The tournament offered more than $70,000 in cash and prizes.

Homer Elk’s Lodge #2127 Winter King Salmon Tournament

The Homer Elk's Winter King Salmon Tournament is a three-day event. in October. It offers cash prizes for the biggest and smallest fish landed each day, the closest to average size, plus half the jackpot for the biggest fish in the tournament. Call 235-2127 for more information
