| Cannery waste a summer treat for Kasilof sled dogs | | There's an old saying that “one person's trash is another's treasure,” and that couldn't be any more true for Jon Little, a Kasilof-based musher who has competed in both the Iditarod and Yukon Quest sled dog races. |
Friday, April 8, 2005 A dog's life: Warrior still running strong Editor's note: Since first appearing in the Peninsula Clarion in 2001, a photograph of the dog Warrior, then a part of Jon Little's team for the Tustumena 200 Sled Dog Race, has run several more times in the paper, most recently on the cover of the Clarion's Iditarod special section. Warrior has retired from competitive distance racing, but his current owner, Mitch Michaud, submitted the following column to update readers on the sled dog's career.
Friday, March 18, 2005 PSDRA hosts Businessman's Race The Peninsula Sled Dog and Racing Association's 20th annual Businessman's Race was held Saturday on the trail network adjacent to the Soldotna airport.
Wednesday, March 9, 2005 Sorlie moves to the front NIKOLAI Dogs, not mushers, are tested for steroids, stimulants and other performance-enhancing drugs in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
News from the trail Robert Sorlie, the 2003 champion from Hurdal, Norway, was the first musher into Nikolai, an Interior Alaska town of 120 people on the south fork of the Kuskokwim River, on Day 3 of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
Tuesday, March 8, 2005 Boulding: The musher's musher RAINY PASS, Alaska Charlie Boulding, a man who reinvented himself a few times and came out of the woods to change sled dog racing, ought to make his next career in Hollywood now that he's running his last Iditarod.
Sunday, March 6, 2005 Buser looking for No. 5 ANCHORAGE Fearless, foolhardy or just plain stubborn, four-time champion Martin Buser cheerfully started the 1,100-mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race on Saturday, a few days after the middle finger of his right hand was amputated above the second joint.
Meet the mushers: It takes all kinds to run the Iditarod Aside from wild moose trying to stomp the dogs and the risks of plunging into the icy ocean or river in inky darkness, the 1,100-mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race is a jaunt in a park.
Friday, March 4, 2005 Dog sledding moves south of Mason-Dixon line DEER PARK, Md. Dog sledding has moved south.
